November 11-13 was the America Cup Championship at Westworld in Scottsdale. The ASU western team was at the show both volunteering for the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona and raising funds for our team. The AHAA was kind enough to also let us set up a booth in the equidome in order to promote our team and raise money for next semesters costs. The team was there from 7:30 in the morning until 5:00 at night all three days. Some of the members of the team were able to help at the show by manning the gate and also presenting ribbons and helping in the arena. Our co-president Alexa Magee had the honor of presenting ribbons and she did an excellent job!
At the booth, we were talking with people about the team and IHSA. I would say that the consensus of the weekend was that most people didn't know ASU had an equestrian team. We were also raffling off prizes every day to people who donated to the team. Some of the prizes included: horse feed (donated by Purina), gift certificates (donated by The Stock Shop), gift cards (donated by a team member, and much more! We were able to raise over $300 dollars which will be used to help pay for show fees next semester. We can't thank the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona enough for the opportunity to get exposure and raise much needed funds for the team.
We especially enjoyed helping with the dog race and dog costume contest! Not to mention, we were able to play dodgeball for a local charity.
All in all, the American Cup Championship was a great time and we can't wait until the Scottsdale show in February!
